What a Weekend!

This past weekend the RHA with the help of Mission Hockey, the San Diego Alliance and about 75 of the sports youth came together for what turned out to be a huge successful weekend of fun, sun, and hockey. Pros, CJ Yoder and Steve Campbell traveled to Tri-City Inline Hockey League in Oceanside, CA to run some clinics and teach the kids the ins and outs of roller hockey. Mission Hockey set up a booth and handed out some great prizes, which was a huge hit, especially with kids that are very new to the sport.

The weekend started as just an idea by a few rink operators and the RHA. The TCIHL (Tri-City Inline Hockey League) was the host rink but there was great support by the rest of the newly formed San Diego Alliance facilities. Saturday was filled with players from 6-12 that were on the floor for some fundamental drills, individual skills and games spread throughout. After each group participated in on floor skills and drills the players headed to the Mission booth where everyone walked away with a gift. Not only was the weather perfect for the event, the barbeque also provided additional smiles with hot dogs and burgers provided to all. It was nice that CJ and Steven could give back to the sport that has done so much for them, and enjoyed doing it.

On Sunday coaches from the region showed for an on-rink coaches clinic ran again by CJ Yoder. A number of eager coaches met in the afternoon where the sports fundamentals were explained and then a number of drills were covered. Coaches were very excited to go teach some of their newly learned drills to their teams, which is obviously great for all involved. The day again was a huge success.

The RHA would like to thank all of the San Diego Alliance personnel for their support. A special thank you to Jim Franke for hosting the event and also Dave Reske, Steve Campbell and Mission Hockey for supporting the RHA.

The weekend was such a huge success and RHA hopes to take the weekend and implement the concept into other markets to enhance the grassroots development.
