San Diego Roller Hockey Alliance Formed
The Directors of the leading San Diego Roller Hockey Leagues, as noted below, have
agreed to form an alliance – The SAN DIEGO ROLLER HOCKEY ALLIANCE- for the
purpose of increasing interest and participation in roller hockey in San Diego and
surrounding areas. These Directors all agree that the future of the sport lies in drawing in
new players, retaining current players, and marketing the sport aggressively and as such,
have committed to work together to promote the sport beginning immediately.
The SAN DIEGO ROLLER HOCKEY ALLIANCE includes representation from all
major recreational youth roller hockey leagues in the San Diego metropolitan area and its
surrounding areas including Temecula Valley, Escondido, 4S Ranch, and Tri-Cities
(Oceanside). Among the many initiatives being evaluated and pursued are:
• inter-league tournaments
• group purchasing of equipment
• inter-league training camps and sessions
• a special initiative to reduce the cost of equipment for beginners to enter
the sport.
A “grass-roots” effort to introduce new players to the sport is the cornerstone of any
growth strategy in any activity, and roller hockey has many unique advantages over the
traditional youth sports alternatives. Our experience has been that players that come into
the sport and get a taste of the excitement, speed, and teamwork typically become hooked
and develop into middle, high school, and travel tournament players and as such, develop
skill and passion for a sport they can enjoy for life. The SAN DIEGO ROLLER
HOCKEY ALLIANCE is a platform by which we intend to leverage our marketing and
out-reach of roller hockey, and therefore introduce this great sport to a new generation of
players, from tots to teenagers.
